Cities across the US are facing transit cuts. Federal operations funding can help close budget gaps.
Additional funding would also mean starting new projects such as the 31st Street Bus Route.
Transit improvement projects like the 31st Street Bus Route also mean jobs. Investing in public transportation projects will also create 19% more jobs than expansion in roads and highways.
Representatives to co-sponsor the H.R. 2746 (Rep. Carnahan – MO). The marker bill would allow transit agencies in urbanized areas of over 1 million to use up to 30% of their federal transit capital funds for operations, and grant even more flexibility for smaller urbanized areas.
80 of every 100 dollars of our transportation money go to fund roads.
what do we get for in return?
Chicago has the oldest train fleet in the US and a 88% dirty diesel bus fleet.
They take a long time to arrive, too long to get where you are going, and cost too much. They are unsafe and broken down.
Chicago has the 2nd worst traffic congestion of any city in the US. Wasted time, money and gas – sitting in traffic.
12 years ago, Congress eliminated subsidies to operate transit systems.
We urge Congressman Lipinski to take leadership and introduce language to increase transit operation funding into the Carnahan Bill HR 2746 by>>>>>>>>
Big 3 automakers got their bailout while transit riders haven’t gotten their fair share of support for 12 years!
