Free Riders for Seniors

Written By: king1028skwirl on October 16, 2009 No Comment

LVEJO opposes eliminating Senior Free Rides. We have many low income seniors in Little Village who need the support of having free rides on CTA, Pace, and Metra.

LVEJO opposes limiting Senior Free Rides to low income seniors.

Undocumented immigrants pay taxes to fund this program, but cannot qualify for Circuit Breaker, the low income program of that State of Illinois.  If Free Rides are offerred on a needs-basis, then undocumented immigrants who ride public transit will not be able to qualify for the program.  This will have a disparate impact and will result in discrimination on the basis of national origin, race, and class.
