Tell Your Senators to Put People Back to Work on Transit Projects
Tomorrow, July 20th, the Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development subcommittee will meet to discuss transit alocations for 2011. The 2011 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill provides an opportunity to put people back to work through the appropriation of mass transit funds. It also provides an opportunity to restore service cuts and access to opportunity by providing local control over how to use federal transit funds.
With increased funding, we could rescind fare hikes, restore cut services, and expand the transportation networks that connect us to opportunity across the country. Tell your Senators that America needs fair access to public transportation in order to participate in the economic recovery.
Please, urge your Senators to support increased transit funding in the 2011 appropriations bill. Once you enter your zip code, we will show you a sample letter of what you could send. Be sure to personalize it and add a personal story about how transit affects you, your friends, and neighbors. Often, the personal stories are what move legislators to vote one way or another.
